UCCS Relay Teams Set New School Records at Air Force Invitational
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Both the Men's and women's 4 X 400 relay teams set new University of Colorado at Colorado Springs school records Saturday on the final day of the Air Force Invitational at the Cadet Field House.
The Mountain Lion women (Jessica Hudson, Amanda Stoesz, Kelsey Barry and Melissa McKinley) finished in 4 minutes, 8.45 seconds to beat teams from Colorado State, Western State, Wichita State and Mesa State.
The men's team of William Pendarvis, Alex Vazquez, Jason Shaver and Almir Hodzic clocked a time of 3:29.40, just 2.24 seconds behind Wyoming and 3.10 seconds behind Wichita State, both Division I schools.
Pendarvis also tied the school record in the 60-meter dash and missed qualifying for the finals in the primarily Division I field by a mere one hundredth of a second.
McKinley and Dan Pinter both qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run. Pinter ran a strong 2:01.07 to take 15th overall and second among Division II runners in the men's race. McKinley, meanwhile, knocked off four runners each from Division I and Division II en route to a 10th-place finish.
After setting a UCCS record in the women's Pentathlon Friday, Josi Heer came back to clock 10.03 seconds in the 60-meter dash on Saturday. Teammate Jenny Hunt also competed in the race.
The Mountain Lions also had two competitors in the women's shot put as Jennifer Callan topped three Division I athletes with a throw of 33 feet, 2 inches and Brittanea Kirby measured in at 29-08.
