Track: UCCS selected sixth and eighth in preseason coaches' poll
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs track and field programs were ranked sixth for the men and eighth for the women on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday.
Adams State had both their men's and women's programs take the first-place spots, along with a majority of the first-place votes. Shortly behind were Western State, followed by Chadron State and Nebraska at Kearney.
In the women's poll, Metro State and Mesa State, both of which are new programs, were ranked above the Mountain Lions, who finished sixth last year in the RMAC.
In the men's poll UCCS was ranked sixth, which is where they finished last year in the RMAC.
The women's preseason track athlete of the year award was named to Tanya Gaurmer of Adams State and the preseason field athlete of the year award was named to Ashley Stephens of Western State.
The men's preseason track athlete of the year award was named to Nick Lara of Adams State and preseason field athlete of the year award was named to Jourdin Holden of Chadron State.
Even though the rankings have been released and the season has begun, the Mountain Lions are not scheduled to compete until Jan. 26 at the Joe Davies meet in Goden.
