Shepard Leads Mountain Lions in RMAC Indoor Championships

Sarah Shepard earned eight of the fourteen team points by finishing second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 32 minutes, and 23 one-tenths of a second to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in the final day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in Golden, Colorado.

The team of Kelsey Barry, Rebecca Wein, Jessica Hudson, and Jenna Dorsey-Spitz finished fifth in the 4X400-meter relay.

The Mountain Lions were unable to move up the team leader board, but they were able to earn 14 team points on Saturday to increase their two day total to 20, which put them at sixth overall.

Leslie Bennett also competed in the 3,000m and finished 16th overall.

Jenna Dorsey-Spitz finished in eighth place in the mile run with a time of 5:30.52, which earned one point for the team. Dorsey-Spitz was followed by Tavia Hammond and Diana Agra who finished 15th and 18th respectively.

Jessica Hudson also earned one point for the team by placing eigth in the 800m with a time of 2:27.55.

In the field events, Cori Brever finished ninth in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 11.5 inches and missed out by just one spot to earn a point for the team. Heidi Fehringer also competed in the high jump and placed 11th overall.

Danielle Clasby was the lone Mountain Lion competitor in the shot put and finished 11th with a throw of 30 feet, 11.25 inches.

The women compete next in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston on March 9.
