Kristen Anderson Place Third in the 3000-Meter Run on Friday at the Air Force Invitational

Kristen Anderson led a small portion of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's track team Friday during the first of a two day event at the Air Force Invitational at the US Air Force Academy.

A day in which many of the UCCS stars sat in order to rest for the meet next week in Wyoming, Anderson was able to pick up the slack and capitalize en route to a third-place finish in the 3000 meter.

"It's her best finish of the year," replied head coach Graeme Badger.

Anderson, who specializes in the 5K was able to hold pace with the leaders from the University of Colorado-Boulder for much of the race before finishing with a time of 11 minutes, 57.89 seconds, forty seconds behind first-place finisher Erin Marston of CU-Boulder.

"Kristen looked really good out there today and she did a really good job," coach Badger stated.

Any high place finish was an accomplishment due to the high quality of competition at the meet. In all there were 12 universities, nine of which compete at the Division I level, including Long Beach State, Fresno State, and Wyoming.

Finishing just behind Anderson in the 3000 were her teammates Christy Severy and Leslie Bennett who finished sixth and ninth respectively.

In the 400-meter run Kelsey Berry finished fourth in her heat for an overall finish of 28th, while her teammate Rebecca Wein finished sixth in her heat for an overall finish of 33rd.

Jessica Hudson had a solid effort but missed qualifying for the finals of the 800 tomorrow by just one position after finishing fifth in her heat and 10th overall (2:32.51). The top nine finishers advance to the finals.

The competition concludes tomorrow starting at 9:30am at the Air Force Academy.
