Rubalcaba-Lopez finishes fifth in 5,000 in first day of RMAC Championships
Aaron Rubalcaba-Lopez had a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run on Friday at the 2007 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Golden, Colorado.
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was able to finish the day with a total of seven team points, which is currently good for fifth overall.
Rubalcaba-Lopez fifth-place finish in the 5,000m was not only the highest finish for the Mountain Lions on the first day of the two-day event, but it also accounted for four of the team's seven points. Carlos Ruibal and Joel Kinitz grabbed 17th and 18th respectively in the 5,000m behind Lopez.
The other three points came in the Distance Medley where UCCS was able to finish sixth with a time of 11 minutes, 7 seconds, and 45 one-tenths of a second. The team was anchored Dustin Simeons and also included Dan Pinter, Carl Lum, and Tory Passalaqua.
The busiest Mountain Lion was Carl Lum, who competed in the aforementioned Distance Medley as well as the 200m and 400m sprints. Lum finished 18th in the 200m and 23rd in the 400m.
Storm Allen finished 15th in the long jump with a jump of 6.59 meters. His teammate, Tory Passalaqua finished just behind him in 19th with a jump of 5.33 meters.
The Mountain Lions will be chasing current team leader, Adams State, who has 58 team points heading into the final day of the competition tomorrow in Golden.
