UCCS women open indoor track season in Alamosa

By Doug Fitzgerald published December 9, 2006

Jessica Hudson took third place in the 800-meter run as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs opened its indoor track season at the ASC Early Bird Meet in Alamosa.

Hudson's time of 2 minutes, 37.06 seconds was just three-tenths of a second behind second-place Kim Willmuth of New Mexico Highlands.

The meet marked a new era for the Mountain Lions' track team, as UCCS had a competitor in nearly every event. In years past, UCCS competed mostly in distance events and a few elected sprints, but rarely in vaults, jumps and throws.

The Mountain Lions young jumpers acquitted themselves well as sophomores Saskia Boogman and Cori Brever took third and fourth respectively in the high jump. Boogman also competed on UCCSâ€TM 4X400 relay team with Hudson, Liz Otterson and Kelsey Barry. The Mountain Lions took fourth in that event.

Barry also scored a solid seventh-place finish out of 14 competitors in the 400-meter dash while Otterson took 12th out of 19 in the 200 meters.
