Personal Best Not Enough to Earn Trip to Nationals
Jenna Dorsey-Spitz finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Emporia State Twilight Meet on Saturday, setting a new personal best time and putting her on the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs all-time performance list.
Dorsey-Spitz's time of 11 minutes, 35.57 seconds put her fifth on the UCCS all-time list, but fell short of her goal of earning a national qualifying time for nationals.
Three Mountain Lions, however, are in position to go to the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 25-27, which will also be held at Emporia, Kan.
Ashley Birger is currently 11th on the national list in the steeplechase, while Megan Lund is 29th on the 10,000 meters list. Shannon Payne has earned provisional times in the 10,000, 5,000 and 3,000, but will likely compete only in the 10,000 at nationals.
