Mountain Lions Kick Off Outdoor Season

After completing the first week of the outdoor season in Boulder, Colo., the Mountain Lions have a lot of corrections to make- to the record books that is.

At the Potts Invitational, Cherdaria Mack tied for 4th place in the 200 meter-dash. Mack's time of 26.04 was identical to Veronica Maul's, a Divison I runner from the University of Colorado. The times were identical due the fact that Mack ran in the first heat, while Maul was in the second. Mack's time ranks 1st in school history, exceding Kaitlyn Marsolek's time of 26.20 set in 2005.

Shannon Payne showed no ill-effect after having to travel across the country for the national indoor championships, in Boston, just seven days prior to the opening of the outdoor season. Payne placed 1st in the 1,500 meter-run, with a time of 4:51.91. Payne's time entered the school record books in 4th place for the event.

Ashley Birger also nationally qualified for the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:04.00. Birger's time cemented her spot a 5th place spot in school history.

Megan Lund began her last collegiate outdoor season with a 4th place finish in the 3,000 meter-run. Lund finished with a time of 11:02.89, just 13 seconds ahead of teammate Addie Devine, who finished in 5th place.

Lisa Short, Kristen Andersen and Leslie Bennett finished 7th, 8th and 9th respectively.

In the long jump, Cheutney Ellerton finished 5th with a distance of 4.61 meters.

Not a bad start to the season...
