Outdoor Season Begins
The Mountain Lions started the outdoor track season in Boulder Saturday, with the Potts Invitational. Not only did the Mountain Lions start the season with a bang, but with a few new records as well.
Aaron Rubalcaba-Lopez started off the season with a 4th place finish in the 3,000 meter-run with a time of 8:53.00. Rubalcaba-Lopez's time set a new school record for the 3,000 meter, beating Jay Luna's time of 9:05.64 set back in 2003.
Ironically, Luna finished 11th behind Rubalcaba-Lopez Saturday, while David Harmer finshed 12th.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, UCCS was the only school to compete. Brad Winn finished first among the Mountain Lions with a time of 9:45.21. The next four finishers were Jason Braun, Gabe Small, Alex Tiernan, and Kevin Moulton.
Mark Brehm ran a 23.16 seconds, 200 meter-dash. The time was good enough for a solid 9th place in the race and 4th in school history.
Brehm's 14th place finish(51.77) in the 400 meter-run also placed 4th in school history for the event.
Dan Pinter finished 8th in the 800 meter-run. Pinter's time was 2:03.09, only seven seconds behind the first place finisher.
