Shepard, Gray Shine at Mt. Sac
Sarah Shepard and Tina Gray were the top Division II finishers in the 3000-meter steeplechase Friday as a handful of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs athletes competed at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Shepard finished 11th overall with a time of 10 minutes, 54.31 seconds. Gray was 13th in the 32-runner field, less than a second behind Shepard. Adams State's Brittany Somers was the next fastest Division II runner, finishing 14th with a time of 10:57.57.
Where those times rank among provisional qualifiers for nationals was not immediately known. Updates will be posted here as they become available.
UCCS' Ashley Birger also ran the steeplechase, finishing 28th (11:28.17).
The only other Mountain Lion woman to compete was Shannon Payne, who took 37th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:05.56.
