Women Edit Track Record Book

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs track coach Graeme Badger needed a big eraser when he edited the school's record book following Friday's Don Barrett/Air Force Open.

Tina Gray, Tiffany Flint and Cherdaria Mack all set new school records for the Mountain Lions. Gray, who set the school mark in the 800-meter run, had plenty of teammates along to keep her company.

"The women's 800 meters was an outstanding race for us with the runners making it a new 1-2-3-4 places on our top five all-time list," said Badger. "Leah Thompson ran her first college race and is now No. 4 all time."

Gray posted a time of 2 minutes, 22.33 seconds to not only break the school record, but also third in the Division I-populated field. The junior from Colorado Springs defeated six Division I runners in the race. Sarah Shepard, Ashley Birger and Thompson all finished within four seconds of each other in taking seventh, eighth and ninth place overall.

Flint tied the team record in the 200 meters with a time of 27.78 seconds, while Mack set a new mark in the long jump at 13 feet, 11.5 inches.

Freshman Shannon Payne turned in another impressive performance by finishing third in the mile. Her altitude-and-track-adjusted time of 5:13.58 was better than that of three Division I runners.
