Team Effort Leads UCCS to Fourth at Davies Invitational
Every member of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's track team that competed at the Joe Davies Invitational in Golden, Colo., Saturday scored at least one team point.
Seven individuals and two relay teams ran for the Mountain Lions, accumulating 57 team points to put CU-Colorado Springs in fourth place overall despite competing in only eight events.
The distance medley team of Tina Gray (1,200), Tiffany Flint (400), Ashley Birger (800) and Shannon Payne (mile) ran an altitude-and-track-adjusted time of 12 minutes, 32.25 seconds to earn a provisional qualifying time for nationals. They finished second among college teams competing, good for eight team points.
Three CU-Colorado Springs runners took first place in their events, earning 1o team points each. Kaitlyn Marsolek continued the strong start of the CU-Colorado Springs sprinters by winning the 400 meters in 1:02.57. Sarah Shepard was the first college runner in the 3,000 meters and ran 10:45.80. Tiffany Flint took first in the 300-meter run with a time of 43.90.
Three Mountain Lions earned four points each with fourth-place finishes â€" Cherdaria Mack in the 200-meter run, Kelly Koopman in the 300 meters and Megan Lund in the mile.
Crystal Ross took sixth in the 800 meters, earning one point.
CU-Colorado Springs also took third in the 4 X 400 relay.
