Todd Earns Two All-RMAC Honors on Final Day
GOLDEN, Colo. - Jessica Todd finished third in the 400-meter hurdles and sixth in the long jump to pick up a pair of all-conference awards to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on the final day of the 2013 RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Todd finished with a personal best time of 1:04.16 in the 400 hurdles and earned All-RMAC Second Team honors with the fastest 400 hurdle time in UCCS history. She also jumped 17 feet, 4 ¾ inches in the long jump to finish sixth for a spot on the All-RMAC Third Team. She came within an inch of her personal best from last season, which ranks second in UCCS records.
Megan Burrell earned All-RMAC honors in the 1,500-meter run to start the day for the Mountain Lions. She was the last runner in a three-runner pack with 125 meters to go, and passed on the outside to finish second in the group and fifth overall in 4 minutes, 42.57 seconds. She ran an altitude-adjusted time of 4:34.99 for a national provisional time, but didn't improve on her mark of 4:32.06 from 10 days ago.
Alexa Urban earned a spot on the All-RMAC Second Team with a fourth-place finish in 2:14.25 for the 800-meter run. Teammate Amber McAfee finished one spot behind in fifth with 2:19.49 for Third Team honors.
Briana Alley, Urban, McAfee and Todd finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay to close the championships for the Mountain Lions. McAfee took UCCS from sixth to as high as third on her leg, but handed off the baton to Todd at the three-minute mark in fourth place. Todd came within eight-tenths of a second of her third all-conference award of the day as UCCS finished with a season-best time of 3:58.91.
Alyssa Andrews finished one spot out of scoring for the Mountain Lions in the 5,000-meter run with 18:47.20.
UCCS placed ninth in the team standings with 41 points on seven all-conference performances. The 41 points were the most for the Mountain Lions at the outdoor conference championships since 2006.
The Mountain Lions will be in action on Sunday in the Colorado Mines Last Chance Meet. It will be the final opportunity for UCCS to improve on marks before the national championship field is released next week by the Division II Track and Field Committee.
