Mountain Lions Win 11th RMAC Title, Witte Wins Individual Title

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Kevin Witte shot a 73 on the final round to finish with a score of 210 and six strokes under par to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to its 11th RMAC championship and the eighth conference tournament title today at the Golf Club at Estrella. Witte finished as the individual champion while teammate Eddie DeLashmutt finished as the runner-up.

The win also clinched the Steel and Silver Series for UCCS for the eighth consecutive year against Colorado State-Pueblo. The Mountain Lions have won the all-sport competition between the two schools in all eight years the competition has been held.

Witte became the first Mountain Lion to win the RMAC individual championship since Chris Shoop shared the title in 2010. Witte led the tournament with 13 birdies and an average of 3.8 shots on par four holes. He was named the Most Valuable Player on the RMAC All-Tournament Team with the win today.

DeLashmutt turned in the best score for UCCS in the third round with a 72 and finished the tournament with a 214 and two strokes under par. It was his second straight runner-up performance of the season and his fourth top 10 finish of 2012-13. DeLashmutt earned a spot on the All-tournament Team with his finish.

Grant Dean finished with his best placing and score of the spring season with a seventh-place finish off a 221. He shot a 73 in the final round and was second in the tournament in par five scoring. Spencer Biersdorff also shot a 73 for the final score for the Mountain Lions today.

Conrad Isley finished No. 18 after a 74 today and finished with 226. He placed fifth among conference freshman with his second-best score of the spring season.

UCCS finished with a team score of 869 for the best score of the spring season and the second-best score of the 2012-13 season. The Mountain Lions won by a 17-stroke margin against Colorado Mines in the first team championship since 2010.

The Mountain Lions will compete in the NCAA Division II West / South Central Region Championships May 6-8 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.
