Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information
Jared Verner is beginning his first year as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He is responsible for the publicity, promotion and distribution of information for the Mountain Lions’ 13 intercollegiate varsity programs.
Verner spent three years at Western State Colorado University, where WSCAthletics.com set new daily, weekly and monthly records and improved traffic by more than 20 percent. Verner also handled limited play-by-play duties for Mountaineer basketball games for KWSB 91.1 FM and KEJJ 98.3 FM. The Mountaineers implemented live blogging technology in addition to a presence on the social media networks of Facebook and twitter.
Verner is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America. He served as the regional coordinator for the Daktronics Women's Basketball All-America program conducted by the Division II Sports Information Directors of America in 2011.
Verner traveled to the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, 2011 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships and 2009 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships with the Mountaineers. He successfully earned the recognition of Mountaineer quarterback Tyler Daniels, wrestler Donovan McMahill and distance runner Tyler Pennel in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" segment. Verner also successfully nominated Loren Ahonen as a two-time Capital One First Team Academic All-American, Pennel and Lauren Kleppin as Capital One First Team Academic All-Americans, and eight student-athletes with Capital One Academic All-District honors.
Verner coordinated a staff that earned "Best in the Nation" honors in 2010-11 in the single-sport game program category for College Division schools by CoSIDA. The recognition came from the submitted programs from the Mountaineer wrestling home duals.
Verner spent four years in the athletic media relations office at Northwest Missouri State University. In that span, he served stints as primary contacts for cross country, track and field, soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball and baseball. He served as interim director in June 2007. At Northwest, Verner was a member of a staff that earned six citations for publication excellence from CoSIDA, including "Best in the Nation" honors for the 2009 women's basketball game program.
With the Bearcats, Verner traveled to three NCAA Division II Football Championship Games, the 2009 Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, served on the host sports information staff for three nationally-televised football games on ESPN2 and ESPNU and worked two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association basketball tournaments, including the Northwest sweep in 2008. He worked with the other sports information offices throughout the MIAA to establish the “MIAA Scoreboard”, a single destination for up-to-the-second scores from across the conference for the use of fans, live radio crews and public address announcers.
Verner earned his associates of science degree in science and mathematics in 2006 from Northwest through the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing, a two-year residential program for high school juniors and seniors to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and a two-year college degree. He stayed a Northwest to earn a bachelors of science degree in journalism in 2008. Verner is completing work for his masters of science degree in education in health and physical education with an athletic administration emphasis from Northwest.
