Kornfeind Named to NFCA All-Region First Team
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Payton Kornfeind, the RMAC Freshman of the Year, was one of two conference softball student-athletes named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Central Region First Team announced this afternoon. She has the fourth-best batting average in Division II and helped lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to the 2013 RMAC Tournament.
Kornfeind finished the season with a .516 batting average and is tied for the best mark among Division II freshmen. She led the RMAC in batting average, finished with the second-best average in a season in UCCS history and the fourth-best average in RMAC history. Kornfeind also finished the season with 64 hits to rank No. 10 in program records.
Kornfeind will advance for All-America consideration. She is the first Mountain Lion on the NFCA Region First Team since Jessika Anastos in 2009. Anastos was also the last UCCS softball student-athlete to earn a spot on the NFCA All-America team.
UCCS finished the season with a 26-20-1 record and made the deepest run in the RMAC tournament since the 2006 season. The Mountain Lions were No. 10 in Division II in batting average, No. 19 in slugging percentage, No. 21 in scoring and No. 32 in doubles.
