UCCS Falls for the First Time in the Tournament
GOLDEN, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colroado Springs softball team (26-19-1 / 19-4 RMAC), falls to Colorado Mines (29-5-1 / 27-3 RMAC) today 8-4.
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings, before the Orediggers were able to break through with one run in the fourth inning.
Marissa Wallace reached first base on an error, and scored two batters later to tie the game on a single to left field by Lara Mathewson.
Colorado Mines answered in the bottom of the fifth inning with three more runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Dani Fonseca started things off for the Mountain lions in the top of the sixth as she reached first base on a passed ball. TJ Flodman hit a two run RBI two batters later to cut into the deficit.
Colorado Mines responded in bottom of the sixth with four more runs, which would be too much for UCCS to come back from as the Mountain Lions fell 8-4.
Jessica Belsterling earned the loss in her five innings pitched. Her record drops to 12-7 on the season.
Up Next: UCCS looks to advance to the championship game tomorrow with a win as it plays Adams State starting at 11:00 a.m.
