Kornfeind Named RMAC Freshman of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball player, Payton Kornfeind is named the RMAC Freshman of the Year.
Kornfeind is first in the RMAC, fourth in NCAA Division II and first among the division's freshmen with a .520 batting average. Kornfeind is ranked 15th among all three NCAA Divisions and third among NCAA freshmen. She is on pace to break the UCCS season batting average. She is also third in the RMAC for stolen bases this season with 18. In addition to being named RMAC Freshman of the Year, Kornfeind is also named to the RMAC First Team All-Conference.
Becca Smith, Jessica Belsterling, and Jourdan Hitchings are named to the RMAC Second Team All-Conference.
Smith is fourth in the conference in wins with 15, and second in strikeouts with 129.She is 54th in the nation for strikeouts per inning and 46th for walks allowed per seven innings.
Belsterling is fourth in the RMAC in RBIs with 40, fifth in home runs with 12, ninth in batting average at .396. She ranks 31st in the nation for home runs per game, 46th in slugging percent, and 11th fin sacrifice flies.
Hitchings has a fielding percent of .982 and is seventh in the RMAC for stolen bases with 14. She is also first in the conference for sacrifice hits with 13, which ranks 29th in the nation.
Lara Mathewson is named to the RMAC Third Team All-Conference. Mathewson is hitting .329 this season and leads the team in doubles with 11.
These Mountain Lions have led the team to the 2013 RMAC post season, and have helped UCCS become one of the greatest offensive threats in the conference. The team is currently first in slugging percent (.516), on base percent (.420), RBIs (263), runs (290), and batting average (.351) which ranks sixth in the nation.
