Mountain Lions No. 10 in South Central Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team made its first appearance in the NCAA Division II South Central Region ranking at No. 10 in the rankings released late Wednesday. The rankings are used by the selection committee when determining the teams for the national postseason.

The Mountain Lions are in pack of five RMAC teams ranked second through fifth in the conference standings separated by 1.5 games. UCCS clinched in a spot in the conference tournament after a win last weekend in Lakewood and will compete for the RMAC playoffs for the second time in the last three seasons.

UCCS has the third-best batting average and ninth-best slugging percentage in Division II this season with one weekend left in the regular season. Payton Kornfeind is ranked fourth in batting average with .520 and is the top-ranked freshman in the nation.

UCCS closes out the home season this weekend with a conference pod series at Mountain Lion Field. UCCS will host Colorado State-Pueblo at 10 a.m. on Saturday before Colorado Mines at 2 p.m. The schedule will reverse for Sunday's games.
