Mountain Lions Go 2-3 in The Desert Stinger Classic
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team (2-3) falls to No. 8 West Texas A&M (5-0) by a final score of 4-0.
Jennifer Schellenberg recorded the first hit of the game as she singled to left center field in the top of the first inning. Schellenberg stole second base, and then advanced to third two batters later with a single to center field by Emily Jennings. The Mountain Lions were unable to bring Schellenberg home though, and remained scoreless after the first inning.
Both teams went down one-two-three in their next at bats, before the Lady Buffs scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second on a solo homerun to center field.
Jourdan Hitchings reached first base on a fielding error to begin the third inning and advanced to second base with a steal two outs later. Jennings concluded the inning with a pop up to third base, as the Mountain Lions left another runner stranded in scoring position.
The Lady Buffs added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning on two hits with one error.
Dani Fonseca started the fourth inning with a single to right field. Becca Needler also recorded a single base hit after a strikeout by Nikki Hoffman. The Mountain Lions had runners on first and second base with one out, but the Lady Buff's infield picked up two quick outs to put an end to the threat.
UCCS was only able to record one more hit in the game against No. 8 team in the nation, as the Mountain Lions were shutout in the final game of the Desert Stinger Classic.
