Hoffman, Meyer Homer in Loss to Central Washington

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs freshmen Nikki Hoffman and Sami Meyer both recorded their first collegiate home runs tonight as the Mountain Lions (1-1) earned a split on the first day of the Desert Stinger Classic after a 10-3 loss tonight to Central Washington (1-0).

Hoffman hit the home run over the left field fence with two outs in the fourth inning to put UCCS on the scoreboard. Meyer homered in the fifth inning on a full count and drove in Claire Nibbe, who reached on a walk. The Wildcat defense responded and retired the Mountain Lions in order for the rest of the game en route to the 10-3 decision tonight.

Stephanie Chitowksi recorded five strikeouts in her collegiate debut to take the loss on the mound. Jessica Belsterling came in for relief and recorded four strikeouts against 11 batters.

Up Next: UCCS continues action in the Desert Stinger Classic on Saturday with a 3 p.m., game against Dixie State and a 5:30 p.m., game against Augustana. All game times are listed for the Mountain Time Zone.
