RICHARDSON, Texas - University of Colorado Colorado Springs freshman outfielder Payton Kornfeind earned a spot on the 2013 Daktronics All-South Central Region First Team announced this morning. She will advance for consideration on the All-America ballot.

Kornfeind also earned a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association South Central Region First Team last Friday and became the first Mountain Lion on the NFCA Regional First Team since Jessika Anastos in 2009. The Daktronics First Team award, which is selected by the sports information directors, is the first for a Mountain Lion since Stacy Haney in 2008.

Kornfeind finished the regular season with a .520 batting average to rank third in Division II and first among Division II freshman. She was eighth in all NCAA divisions and third among all freshmen in the NCAA. Her final .516 batting average, which accounted for an at-bat during the RMAC tournament, put her in fourth in conference records and second in UCCS records.

Kornfeind finished the season with 64 hits for No. 10 in program records, and her 18 stolen bases this season were two short of the top 10 for UCCS. She ranked No. 10 in Division II with a .560 on-base percentage and No. 16 with 1.11 runs per game at the end of the regular season.

Kornfeind was the RMAC Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-RMAC First Team. She's the first freshman outfielder named to a conference first team in the RMAC since 2010.

The Mountain Lions finished the season 26-20-1 and made the deepest run in the RMAC tournament since 2006. UCCS was No. 10 in Division II for batting average, No. 19 in slugging percentage, No. 21 in scoring and No. 32 in doubles.
