Game 1 Recap

UCCS and CSU-Pueblo played in the first game of the day, which turned out to be an instant classic as it took 12 innings to be decided. It was a pitcher's duel as Becca Smith went head-to-head with Justine Bosio.

Both teams remained scoreless heading into the 11th inning, but that would soon change. The Thunderwolves started the inning by breaking up the shutout, scoring three runs to take the first lead of the game.

Landry Davis grounded out to start the inning, but Jourdan Hitchings was able begin the rally for the Mountain Lions by drawing the walk. Lara Mathewson was walked next, which brought the tie run to the plate.

Jessica Belsterling reached on a fielder's choice, and kept two runners on base with two outs in the inning. Emily Jennings was able to capitalize with an RBI single to right center field to give UCCS its first run of the game.

The Mountain Lions decided to insert Brittney Hoppe to pinch run, which proved to be a great decision as she hit an RBI single to left field to bring UCCS to within one run. The Mountain Lions were able to get the one run they needed to continue the game as TJ Flodman also hit an RBI single to the outfield, to tie the game at three runs apiece.

UCCS failed to add any more runs in the 11th inning as the game went to the 12th inning tied 3-3. That soon changed though as the Thunderwolves added five more runs, which proved to be too much for the Mountain Lions to come back from as they fell 8-3.

Becca Smith pitched 12 complete innings and recorded nine strikeouts as her record falls to 14-8 on the season.

Game 2 Recap

The game between UCCS and Colorado Mines would be much different than the first game, as evidenced by a solo home run by the first batter of the game. A second home run came in the inning for Colorado Mines, which gave the Orediggers a 3-0 lead after the top of the first.

UCCS was unable to cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning, and failed to put any runs on the board until the fourth. Colorado Mines scored five runs to start the fifth inning, which gave the Orediggers a 9-1 lead in the sixth.

The Mountain Lions were unable to mount a comeback, as they fell due to the run-rule in five innings.

Korey Kulpins came in to relieve Jessica Belsterling in the fourth inning. Kulpins pitched two innings and recorded one strikeout with zero earned runs. Belsterling earned the loss to fall to 6-8.

UCCS will be back in action Sunday for the final regular season games as the Mountain Lions host both the Thunderwolves and the Orediggers for two more games. The first game of the day will be UCCS against Colorado Mines starting at 10:00 a.m.
