Belsterling Named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has recognized several University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball players for their academic excellence, including Jessica Belsterling, who was named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution.
Jessica Belsterling was named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team. Belsterling has a 3.55 GPA, majoring in Health Science. She was the first RMAC Player of the Week to begin the 2013 season as she hit for the cycle in the Mountain Lions' season opener.
Belsterling is currently third in the conference for home runs (11), 26th in the nation for home runs per game (.31), 11th in the nation for sacrifice flies (4.0), 34th in the nation for slugging percent (.804). Belsterling also earned a spot on the Dean's List in 2012.
Becca Smith was named to the RMAC All-Academic Second Team. Smith has a 3.48 GPA, majoring in History and Special Education. She was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week April ninth of this season.
Smith is currently second in the RMAC for strikeouts (111), and third for wins (13). She ranks 33rd in the nation for strikeouts per seven innings (7.4), 65th in the nation for victories (13), 68th in the nation for strikeouts (111), 57th in the nation for walks allowed per seven innings (1.59). Smith also earned a spot on the Dean's list in 2012.
Several other Mountain Lions were also recognized for their academic achievements, and named to the Honor Roll. Emily Jennings has a 3.59 GPA, majoring in Biochemistry. Jace Day has a 3.44 GPA, majoring in Zoology. Jen Schellenberg has a 3.43 GPA, majoring in Business Marketing & Advertising. Erin Milburn has a 3.50 GPA, with an undeclared major. Dani Fonseca has a 3.35 GPA, with an undeclared major.
