Mountain Lions Look to Defend Undefeated Home Record This Weekend
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team (19-11-1 / 14-7 RMAC) looks to defend its undefeated home record (9-0) this weekend as it hosts Regis University (6-23 / 5-13 RMAC) for a four-game series.
This will be the first four-game series of the season for UCCS as the previous three home stands have been altered due to weather. The Mountain Lions went 3-0 in each of those triple headers to give them the best home record since 2006 when the team went 16-0 at Mountain lion Field to start the season and finished 22-5 at home.
Regis leads UCCS in the all-time series 70-38, but UCCS has won two of the previous three games against Regis, including a 19-3 run rule victory in a non-conference game to open the 2013 season.
UCCS is first in the RMAC for batting average (.367), slugging percent (.548), runs (223), fielding percent (.967), on base percent (.438) and RBIs (212). The Mountain Lions are also rank in the top 15 in the nation for some of those categories. They are third for batting average, 10th in slugging percent, and 11th in scoring.
Payton Kornfeind, Emily Jennings, and Jessica Belsterling each have reached base in the previous 14 games.
Payton Kornfeind is second in the conference in batting average (.505) and in stolen bases (14) and sixth for RBIs (31).
Jessica Belsterling leads the team in homeruns (10), which is 17th in the nation and second most in the RMAC. Belsterling is also fourth in the RMAC in batting average (.444)
Belsterling, Kornfeind, and the rest of the Mountain lions look to remain undefeated at home this weekend as they host Regis for two double-headers. First pitch of the first double-header is set for Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Fans that cannot make it to Mountain Lion field can listen to the games on UCCS radio or follow the live statistics online.
