The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team (14-9-1 /9-5 RMAC) wins its seventh game of the season due to the run-rule as UCCS defeats Adams State (8-7 / 7-3 RMAC) in the final game of the series.

Game 1 Recap

The Grizzlies scored the first run of the game in the second inning, but the Mountain Lions answered in the top of the third with a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1.

Jennifer Schellenberg doubled to left field to start the inning, and scored in the next at bat as Payton Kornfeind doubled down the third base line.

UCCS tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning as Emily Jennings and Allie Corids each recorded an RBI to give the Mountain Lions their first lead of the game.

The fifth inning was much like the third as Schellenberg doubled to left field and scored off the bat of Kornfeind who earned her second RBI of the game.

That would be the final run scored for UCCS as it took a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning. Adams State erupted for seven runs in the sixth, which would be too much for the Mountain Lions to come back from in the final inning. The Grizzlies held on to win the first game 9-4.

Schellenberg finished with a team-best two runs and went two-of-three from the plate.

TJ Flodman singled to left field in the second inning to extend her on base streak to 13 games.

The record for Becca Smith fell to 7-4 after today's game. She finished with three strikeouts in her 5.1 innings pitched.

Game 2 Recap

UCCS started off the second game strong as they scored five runs in the first inning. Kornfeind started things off by beating out a bunt and advanced to second with a single by Jourdan Hitchings. Lara Mathewson scored them both as she doubled to center field in the next at bat. Emily Jennings, Allie Corids, and Erin Milburn also each recorded an RBI in the inning.

The top of the line up led off again for the Mountain Lions in the second inning, and Kornfeind reached first base just like she did in the first inning. Hitchings also reached in her second at bat and scored again as Jennings doubled down the third base line for two more RBIs.

The Mountain Lions fell silent in the third and fourth innings, but added four more runs in the fifth to take an 11-1 lead. That would be the final score of the second game as UCCS won by the run-rule for the seventh time this season.

Korey Kulpins earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. She allowed just six hits and one run in her five innings pitched.

Up Next: UCCS will be back in action next weekend for a four-game home-stand as it hosts New Mexico Highlands (10-18-1 / 3-12-1 RMAC) starting with a double header on Saturday beginning at noon. New Mexico Highlands lost three-of-four games this weekend against Western New Mexico.
