Mountain Lions Finish Opening Weekend Unbeaten

DENVER, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team (4-0-1) defeats Adams State (1-4) today 11-3 to finish the opening weekend unbeaten.
 
The Mountain lions erupted in the second inning, after going scoreless in the first, to take a 4-2 lead into the third. Becca Needler had a triple in the inning, to record two of her game-high three RBIs. Needler hit two-for-four in the game.

UCCS fell silent again until the fifth inning, when they tacked on two more runs to take a 6-3 lead. The Mountain Lions were quiet in the sixth inning, but finished the game with a bang as they exploded for five more runs in the seventh inning.

Becca Smith earned her third straight win to open the season and allowed just seven hits with three runs in doing so. Smith pitched seven complete innings and had six strikeouts. She leads the RMAC in strikeouts with 28, which is 15 more than the second most in the conference.

Up Next: UCCS will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take part in the Montana State University Billings Desert Stinger. The first game of the tournament for the Mountain Lions will be Friday, as they take on Western Washington (3-1) at 3:00 p.m.
