Mountain Lions Start the Season 3-0 for the First Time since 2007

DENVER, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team defeats Metro State 6-5 to start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2007.

Emily Jennings was walked to start the second inning, which would result in the first run of the game a few plays later when Allie Corids would reach base on a fielder's choice.  Jennings would record an RBI of her own the next inning as she flied out to left field for the sacrifice.

The Mountain Lions would add on more in the third inning and two more the next. Corids started the fourth inning with a double to right field and would score two plays later when Kornfeind also hit a double, driving the ball to the other side. Kornfeind scored minutes later on error. She went two-for-three in the game with one RBI.

UCCS jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Metro State answer in the fourth inning, matching UCCS with two runs. The Roadrunners tacked on two more in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth to tie the game up, heading into the seventh.

Belsterling was hit by a pitch to start off the seventh inning which was followed by a single to right field by TJ flodman. Allie Corids scored her second RBI of the game the next play, as she flied out to center field to bring in the game winning run. Corids hit two-for-three in the game.

Becca Smith got her second straight win, as she pitched the complete game. She recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed eight with hits five runs.
