Mathewson Earns Spot on RMAC Preseason Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior infielder Lara Mathewson earned a spot on the All-RMAC Preseason Softball Team announced this afternoon by the conference office. The Mountain Lions also earned one first place vote and were picked seventh in the preseason poll.

Mathewson earned NFCA All-Central Region Second Team hnors last season and led the Mountain Lions with 11 home runs. She had the fourth-best slugging percentage in the RMAC with .803 and the fifth-best on-base percentage with .511. She was an All-RMAC First Team selection.

The Mountain Lions tallied 67 points in the coaches voting, two points behind Colorado Mesa and nine points behind Colorado State-Pueblo. Five different teams earned at least one first place vote. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

UCCS opens the 2013 season during the weekend of Feb. 1-3 in Denver, Colo. The Mountain Lions take on Adams State twice, Regis, Metro State and Colorado Mines in a nonconference classic at the Metro State and Regis fields.
