Mountain Lions Announce Two New Additions to the UCCS Softball Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs announces the signing of two new pitchers to the Mountain Lion softball team that will join the squad in the Fall of 2013. Stephanie Chitkowski and Nikki Hoffman not only are accomplished softball players, they both excel in the classroom in addition to having wonderful family support. UCCS softball is extremely excited to welcome these two outstanding student-athletes to our program.
Of Stephanie Chitkowski, head coach Scott Peterson said, "we are extremely excited to welcome Stephanie and her family to Mountain Lion softball. Stephanie is the consummate pitcher. She has had very good coaching both privately and at the high school level. Stephanie has pitched in the biggest games possible at this point in her career (and with great success winning the Illinois state championship game) and I don't see her being fazed by the pressure of pitching at the college level. We followed all of the playoff games from the Illinois state tournament and she never gave up a run, not one. Amazing. I expect that Stephanie will be ready to compete on day 1 next August. Stephanie is very prepared and understands pitching very well; she is going to be a great addition to UCCS Softball."
Coach Peterson went on to discuss the other new recruit, Nikki Hoffman, by saying that "she is one of those kids that is just a pleasure to have as part of your program, a wonderful easy going personality that turns it on when the game starts. During the recruiting process we were very impressed with the absolute command of the strike zone; it is rare to see a young pitcher have such great control of both sides of the plate. Nikki has been playing at a highly competitive level in both high school and the club level in Southern California and should adjust quickly to the college level. Not only is Nikki a very solid pitcher but she can also play both middle infield positions. Nikki Hoffman is very versatile, very athletic and we can't wait to see her in Colorado Springs, everyone is just going to love her as a teammate."
