UCCS Softball Drops Three of Four to Regis in Weekend Series
Denver, CO: The UCCS women's softball team lost 3 games this weekend to the Regis Rangers in Denver, managing their only win of the series in the third game 4-3 in extra innings. The three losses put the Mountain Lions behind the eight ball down the stretch in the playoff race, as their record dropped to 18-21 overall, 16-18 RMAC. UCCS now finds themselves in 10th place overall in the conference standings and only the top 8 teams make it to the playoffs. Regis, on the other hand, did what the Mountain Lions had hoped coming into the weekend. By winning the series the Rangers played themselves into the 8th spot. The Rangers also become a tough team to catch as their final four games of the conference season will be against Black Hills State, a team that is 5-27 overall in the RMAC and in last place. The Mountain Lions will need to take care of business over the final six games of their season as well as get some help from teams now occupying the final playoff spots.
The Mountain Lions next games will be a mid-week doubleheader against their travel partner Colorado Mines on Wednesday, April 18th at 5:30 and 7:30 pm. Before the doubleheader, the UCCS Athletic Department will honor UCCS Inaugural Hall of Fame member Crystal Krebs by retiring her #22 from UCCS softball, never to be worn again in her honor.
The final series of the year will be the following weekend when the Mountain Lions take on Colorado Christian University who has been the surprise team in the RMAC. As a first year program, CCU finds themselves in second place in the conference with a 27-22 overall record, 23-13 RMAC (which is 1.5 games out of first place). The UCCS v. CCU series will take place at Mountain Lion Stadium on April 21 and 22.
