Belsterling Named RMAC Player of the Week

UCCS women's softball player Jessica Belsterling was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Player of the Week for Week 4 after her dominating performance in the RMAC/NSIC Crossover Tournament in Pueblo, CO.

Belsterling posted a .750 batting average in four neutral-site, tournament games last week, going 10-for-12 at the plate. She drove in 10 runs and scored three times while notching three extra base hits (two doubles, triple). Against Concordia-St. Paul (L, 7-5), Belsterling went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and five RBI's. In UCCS' 13-1 win over Black Hills State, she notched four hits on four at-bats, scored three times and drove in four runs. She finished the weekend going 4-for-4 again against No. 13 Minnesota State-Mankato (W, 4-3) with a triple and RBI.

In the circle, Belsterling went 1-1 on the weekend. She was one pitch away from a no-hitter against Black Hills State, settling for a one-hitter in the 13-1 victory. She earned the save in the team's 4-3 win over #13 Minnesota State-Mankato. Belsterling currently leads the league in batting average, on-base percentage and is second in the league in slugging (1.0830).

The Mountain Lion women's softball team will begin their RMAC schedule this weekend with games against Metro State in Denver, CO.  They will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, February 25-26.

May 10, 2012Mathewson Named to 2012 NFCA All-Central Region TeamColorado Springs, CO: Lara Mathewson was named to the 2012 NFCA All-Central Region Team today. Mathewson led the Mountain Lion offense this past season, by hitting a team best 11 home runs (tied 6th best in the conference) and had the 2nd highest batting average on the team at .419 (11th best in the conference). She also led the team with 42 RBI’s and was 3rd on the team in hits (49). She was also had a .803 slugging percentage which was good for 4th best in the conference, as well as the 5th best on base percentage in the conference at .511%. Mathewson started all 38 games for the Mountain Lions that she played in.

UCCS junior Lara Mathewson was named first team conference, sophomore Jessica Belsterling was named second team, true freshman Emily Jennings made the third team, and Junior Landry Davis made third team.
