UCCS Drops Season Opener to Winona State

By Nathan Gibson published February 17, 2012

PUEBLO,CO - The UCCS Women's Softball team began their 2012 season Friday playing Winona State in the RMAC/NSIC Crossover tournament hosted by Colorado State University - Pueblo.

Unfortunately for the Mountain Lions, beginning the season against one of the top teams in the NSIC who just so happen to have one of the top pitchers in the country, proved too much on Friday Morning.  UCCS lost the game 9-0.

For this game, the UCCS offense was frustrated by Winona State's stud pitcher Stacey Struznski.  The Mountain Lions were only able to manage two hits through five innings, one by Christina Blanton and the other by Erin Milburn.  Jessica Belsterling pitched for UCCS and took the loss.

UCCS will take on Concordia-St. Paul at 2 pm this afternoon finishing the day's doubleheader.

The UCCS Women's Softball will complete the tournament tomorrow with a double header against Black Hills State at 10 am and Minnesota State at noon. Both games will be played in Pueblo, CO.
