Mountain Lions Split Road Trip to Mines

By Chris Vigil published March 15, 2012

Golden, CO - The UCCS Softball team traveled to the Colorado School of Mines and ended up splitting a pair of games with the Orediggers on Wednesday.

The first game saw the Mountain Lions obtain a 4-1 victory.  Jessica Belsterling belted the lone home run of the game and also dominated the Orediggers' hitters, only allowing one run on two hits.  Belsterling's homerun, according to sources, is still traveling as the epic moon shot was said to have gone over the long outfield fence, scoreboard, and as sighted for speeding on Highway 19 headed to Boulder.  Belsterling also pitched a gem, giving up a swinging bunt, a double and nothing else.

In the second game, the Mountain Lions had trouble taking advantage of great opportunities.  UCCS left 12 runners on base and fell to the Orediggers 7-1.  Despite the loss, Jen Schellenburg, Jourdan Hitchings, and Emily Jennings all had two hits, with Jennings driving in the lone run on the game.

The Mountain Lion will take on Colorado Mesa this weekend for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Mountain Lion Stadium.

Go Mountain Lions!
