Loss to Concordia St. Paul Evens UCCS' Tournament Record at 2-2

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Twice in one day proved to be one too many for University of Colorado at Colorado Springs pitcher Jessica Belsterling.

Pitching her second game of the day, Belsterling struggled as the Mountain Lions were beaten 8-0 by the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears Saturday Afternoon at the  RCTC Dome.

The Mountain Lions missed No. 1 pitcher Becca Smith, who did not make the trip while recovering from an undisclosed medical condition. Without her, UCCS was forced to pitch Belsterling (2-2) twice and Jenna Mott once in Saturday's three games.

The results weren't pretty. UCCS' prized freshman allowed seven runs on nine hits over four innings against the Golden Bears. Jenna Mott allowed one run in one inning of relief.

The Mountain Lions are now 2-2 at the SIC/RMAC Crossover Tournament, which pits teams from NCAA Division II's two Central region Conferences, the Northern Sun and the Rocky Mountain Athletic, against each other. UCCS will complete its participation Sunday morning when it faces the Upper Iowa Peacocks.

Christina Blanton and Tahnea Leeling had the only hits against Concordia-St. Paul starter Stephanie Schmikla (1-1). After not advancing a runner past first base through the first four innings, the Mountain Lions loaded the bases in the fifth with one out but were unable to bring a run home.

Brynn Larsen and Calli Brennan each hit home runs and each had three RBIs. Larsen, Brennan, katie Anderson and Missie Feuerbach each had two hits.
