No. 9-Ranked Nebraska-Omaha Coming to Colorado Springs

By Doug Fitzgerald published February 9, 2011

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs softball team will begin its season a week earlier than originally though.

The Mountain Lions will host the No. 9-ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. Saturday's twinbill will begin at noon and Sunday's will start at 11 a.m.

Nebraska-Omaha was originally scheduled to attend a tournament in Oklahoma, but snow and cold forced the host institution to cancel. With Colorado Springs' weekend forecast for temperatures in the mid to high 50s, the Mavericks will head to Mountain Lion Field instead.

The series against the nationally-ranked Mavericks will be a good tune-up for UCCS, which is competing in the RMAC/NSIC Crossover Tournament the following weekend.
