Softball Signs Phoenix Pitcher/Infielder Kulpins
University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball coach Scott Peterson announced Monday that he had received a National Letter of Intent from Korey Kulpins from Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, Ariz.
"Korey just helped get her team to the Arizona State semi final game with not only her pitching but her bat, too," said Peterson. "When Korey gets here this fall she will spend some time in the circle, spend some time with the middle infielders and possibly spend some time with the outfielders.
"She is an athletic player in addition to being a very good student, and we have always looked out for well rounded athletic kids".
Kulpins hit .308 this past season with a .402 on base percentage. The slugging percentage has grown in each of her past three seasons and Shadow Mountain, going from .415 as a sophomore to .468 as a junior and on the this past season's .551. She was named All-Desert Sky Region 4A Conference honorable mention in 2009 and to the all-conference second team in 2010.
As a pitcher, Kulpins' ERA has shrunk in each of her past three seasons. She was 9-11 with a 3.85 ERA as a sophomore, 9-5 with a 2.52 ERA as a junior and 17-4 with a 2.05 ERA as a senior. She struck out 144 and walked 51 in 133 innings pitched this past season.
