LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Christina Blanton went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs opened its 2010 softball season with a 12-4 win over the University of Mary Marauders Friday afternoon at Majestic Park.

Blanton, who took a 10-game hitting streak into this season, extended it to 11 with a single, a double and a home run. Amanda Hathaway, starting her first game in center field after playing third base and shortstop in her first two seasons at UCCS, went 2-for-3 with a home run and scored three runs.

Sarah McCauley got the win for UCCS (1-0), allowing four runs (two earned) on 11 hits over six innings.

Sophomore Ashley Jordan and freshman Lara Mathewson, tasked with getting the offense started at the top of the batting order, did exactly that. Jordan singles and walked three times in five plate appearances while Mathewson had a single and two walks. Each scored twice and Mathewson added two RBIs.

Jenna Button went 3-for-4 and scored twice for Mary (0-1).

The Mountain Lions' second scheduled game on Friday was suspended because of darkness. It will resume on Sunday at 11 a.m. with UCCS batting in the top of the fifth inning and trailing the No. 4-ranked Dixie State Red Storm 17-7.
