Haney Named RMAC Player of the Week

By Doug Fitzgerald published February 12, 2008

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs center fielder Stacy Haney was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference softball player of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.

In the Mountain Lions' first six games of the season, Haney batted .471 with six runs scored, four RBIs and a double. She went 8-for-17 over the six games, a statistic made even more impressive because opposing pitchers were loathe to throw anything even remotely close to the strike zone. Despite an aggressive approach at the plate, Haney walked five times for a .591 on base percentage.

Haney recorded the game-winning RBI in two of the Mountain Lions' three wins during the week and had at least one hit in every game. Including the final game of last season, she is currently riding a seven-game hit streak.

Haney also stole seven bases, tying teammate Rachel Hancock for the conference lead in that category.

The senior from Littleton was the RMAC player of the year for 2007 and was named the preseason player of the year for 2008. She was named first-team All-American by Daktronics and was a third-team All-American by Louisville Slugger/NFCA.

It was Haney's fifth career RMAC player of the week award, a new UCCS record. She had previously been tied with Crystal Krebs, who received the honor four times from 2004-05.
