Mountain Lions Climb to No. 6 in NSCAA South Central Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (7-3, 4-3 RMAC) has been ranked regionally for the seventh consecutive week of the 2013 season. In the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire South Central Poll released earlier this morning, the Mountain Lions lay claims to the No. 6 spot.
UCCS is coming off a huge upset victory on the road this weekend over previously ranked No. 12 Fort Lewis (10-2, 6-2). Friday's matchup with Fort Lewis in Durango, Colo. was the lone game of the weekend for the Mountain Lions.
Sophomore defender Annick Pearson scored the game winning goal off a corner kick in the 52nd minute for her first goal of the season. Less than three minutes later Hannah Levett notched the insurance goal as UCCS would win by mark of 2-0. Four different UCCS players recorded points in the match as Jess Freeze and Taylor Braden both earned assists. Senior goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder made eight saves to earn her sixth shutout win this season.
The Mountain Lions return to action this weekend when they host Western State (4-7-1, 1-6-1) on Friday night. UCCS will compete against a nationally ranked opponent for the third time this season when they travel to Denver, Colo. on Sunday to take on No. 12 Metro State.
