UCCS Gets Back on Track with 2-1 Win at Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Anyone who left the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (4-5-3 / 3-4-3 RMAC) at Colorado Christian University (3-11 / 2-8 RMAC) game early missed out on all the action in a game that saw all three goals in 2-1 Mountain Lion win come in the last 10 minutes of play at Trailblazer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

A back-and-forth game saw defense prevail early in the contest despite UCCS dominating the shot chart throughout the match. The Mountain Lions posted 19 total shots to the Cougars three.

The first UCCS goal came via a James Roberts penalty kick in the 79th minute after Roberts was fouled in the box while sending a pass to Mathew Cox. The goal was Roberts's team-leading sixth goal of the season, a mark that puts him top five in the RMAC in the category.

The Mountain Lions turned around and added another goal in the 81st minute when Cox was in the right place at the right time and tapped in a rebound from two yards out to make the score 2-0.

The tight officiating worked out in the Mountain Lions favor earlier in the game but not during the 85th minute when Luke Burgard of Colorado Christian was awarded a penalty kick of his own to put the Cougars right back in it.

Too little, too late summed up the rest of match as Colorado Christian scrambled to force the issue in the final five minutes of play with the score 2-1 in favor of UCCS but, couldn't get any opportunities generated.

Up Next:  The Mountain Lions have a quick turn around this week with a game on Wednesday night at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the CSM Soccer Stadium.
