UCCS Women Earn NSCAA Team Academic Award
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team earned its first National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award this morning. The award is for the 2012-13 academic year when the Mountain Lions put together a team grade point average of 3.31.
UCCS was one of nine RMAC teams to earn the academic award, which required a team GPA of 3.00. Five conference teams each had a GPA above 3.30, and the Mountain Lions were one of two RMAC teams to rank in the top four in both team GPA and in the conference standings for the 2012 season.
UCCS placed nine student-athletes on the RMAC All-Academic teams last season, led by First Team selection Hannah Rather. The Mountain Lions also collected 12 President's List or Dean's List honors in the 2012-13 academic year with individual semester GPAs above 3.75.
The Mountain Lions academic performance for the 2013 season, which will be submitted to the NSCAA next fall, includes the first Capital One Academic All-District First Team selection in program history. Agnes Arnadottir will find out on Monday if she will become the first Academic All-American in program history and the sixth in all sports in UCCS history.
The UCCS men also earned its first NSCAA Team Academic Award, which made the Mountain Lion men's and women's soccer programs one of 184 in the NCAA and NAIA to earn the award for both programs. UCCS was one of two programs in the RMAC, along with Regis, to earn the distinction for both men's and women's teams.
