UCCS Headed to RMAC Tournament Despite Loss to N.M. Highlands

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (9-6-1, 6-6-1 RMAC) has secured their spot in the 2013 RMAC tournament, despite dropping a 2-0 decision to New Mexico Highlands (9-5-3, 7-5-1 RMAC). This marks the fifth time in the program's seven year history that the Mountain Lions have qualified for the conference tournament.

Cowgirl forward, and reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, Anyssa Dagnino netted a pair of first half goals to lead NMHU to the win. Dagnino scored the game winning goal at the 19:31 minute mark when she converted on a breakaway from a defensive turnover. Less than seven minutes later she added the insurance goal when she finished a shot that beat goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder, who came out for the challenge.

UCCS outshot NMHU 18-10 in the match. The Mountain Lions fired 12 shots compared to NMHU's three in the second half, but the attempts weren't enough as UCCS failed to find the back of the net.

Senior forward Lindsay Birdseye led the Mountain Lions with five shots. Fellow senior, goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder totaled three saves in net.

Despite the loss to New Mexico Highlands, UCCS secured their bid based on other conference action today. Earlier this afternoon, Fort Lewis (14-3, 10-3 RMAC) defeated Colorado Mesa (6-11, 5-8 RMAC) which means UCCS' 19 conference points is enough to secure them at least a sixth place finish.

The Mountain Lions will play their final game of the regular season on Sunday when they travel to Pueblo, Colo. to take on the ThunderWolves of CSU-Pueblo (6-10, 3-10 RMAC).
