Mountain Lions Shut Out #12 Skyhawks in Durango
DURANGO, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder earned her sixth shutout of the season while Annick Pearson and Hannah Levett each scored second-half goals to lead the Mountain Lions (7-3, 4-3 RMAC) to a 2-0 win at No. 12 Fort Lewis (9-2, 5-2 RMAC) today at Dirks Field.
The win snaps a three-game skid and puts the Mountain Lions in a tie for fourth in the RMAC standings before tonight's round of games. It's the second straight shutout win against Fort Lewis on the road.
UCCS was outshot overall in the game - 19-to-nine - but had a higher percentage of quality shots with seven on frame compared to eight by Fort Lewis. The Mountain Lions secured their two goals within a four-minute span early in the second half, first with Pearson's first goal of the season off a set play on the corner with assists for Jess Freeze and Taylor Braden in the 53rd minute. Levett followed with an unassisted goal and her sixth goal of the season.
Schroeder made saves against each of the eight Skyhawk shots for her 20th career shutout. She needs three more shutouts to tie for sixth in RMAC career records and six more to enter the top 25 in Division II career records. Schroeder also needs two more shutouts to tie her own UCCS season record set last season.
Up Next: UCCS will enjoy a week off from competition before hosting Western State on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., at Mountain Lion Stadium.
