Women's Soccer Holds Workout Before Departing for Winter Park
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs soccer, cross country and volleyball teams completed their first day of practices today. Student-athletes completed preseason compliance and sports medicine paperwork yesterday before competing in practices and team meetings today.
Men's cross country ran on the Pikes Peak Greenway near downtown Colorado Springs this morning before participating in team meetings this afternoon on campus. Women's cross country opened the season with a pair of workouts between Garry Berry Stadium and Monument Valley Park.
Women's soccer opened with a two-mile run on the Pikes Peak Greenway near the UCCS campus and completed a workout with the Army ROTC at Mountain Lion Stadium. The Mountain Lions departed for Winter Park later in the day for a week-long training retreat at altitude.
Men's soccer and volleyball held a pair of practices at Mountain Lion Stadium and the UCCS Student Recreation Center, respectively. Morning practices focused on reinforcement of fundamentals and conditioning for tonight's practices.
Soccer and volleyball will conduct preseason scrimmages within the Colorado Springs area before the beginning of the 2013 exhibition and regular season. Women's soccer will host Division I South Dakota in an exhibition game on Sept. 1, men's soccer will open the regular season Sept. 5 at home against St. Mary's, and volleyball will travel to begin the regular season Sept. 6-7 at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic.
