UCCS suffers OT loss to Regis
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In a match that saw the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2-3-2 / 1-2-2 RMAC) in the lead for 81 minutes, the Mountain Lions took a tough loss at home against Regis University (6-1 / 5-1 RMAC) in overtime by the score of 4-3 Friday night at Mountain Lion Stadium.
The game had plenty of fireworks in the early going with three goals coming in the first 10 minutes.
Regis got things going when Mark Kelly received a pass from Martin Maybin for a goal in the third minute. UCCS quickly answered back with a pair of goals from Cort Searls and Marshall Hiner in the sixth and ninth minute respectively. The goals were both players first of the season.
That early flurry completed all the scoring in the first-half.
In the 49th minute Searls headed in a pass from James Roberts for his second goal of the game to make the score 3-1. Less than a minute later however the Ranger's Kelly scored an unassisted goal for his second of the game as well with 44:37 remaining in the game.
When the game seemed all but over Kelly came back for more grabbing his third goal of the game with 1:47 remaining in the game to send it to overtime.
The overtime period was short lived as Martin Maybin was fouled in the UCCS box, forcing a penalty kick.
Maybin connected on his first penalty kick of the season only 3:19 into the overtime period sending Regis to victory.
