Shaswar, Kinzer Earn RMAC Scholar-Athlete Awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs seniors Mash Sashwar and Nikki Kinzer earned the RMAC Scholar-Athlete Award from the conference office. The two Mountain Lions were among the 28 student-athletes recognized by the conference.
Shaswar, a McLaughlin Award winner for UCCS this season, became the first men's soccer student-athlete to earn a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America teams and the fourth in school history. He was an Academic All-District and RMAC All-Academic First Team selection this season. His selection to the RMAC All-Academic team was the second in his career.
Shaswar was a Daktronics Second Team and All-RMAC Second Team student-athlete during his senior season and led the Mountain Lions with eight goals, 17 points and three game-winning goals. He led UCCS to its first playoff win since 1998 and first RMAC semifinal appearance since 2001. The Mountain Lions hosted their first playoff game since joining the conference.
Kinzer, a McLaughlin Award recipient in the 2011-12 academic year, is the first volleyball All-American in UCCS history. She led Division II in blocks per set, set the program record for career block assists and finished her career eighth with 880 kills in three seasons.
Kinzer was the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and a four-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. She was a member of the RMAC All-Academic First Team last fall and a member of the UCCS Dean's List.
The RMAC Scholar-Athletes are selected by administrators at each conference school. All recipients must compete in one of the conference-sponsored championship sports, have at least a 3.30 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve, be of good character and active on the team for two or more seasons.
