Fourth Seed Mountain Lions Take on Top Seed Regis in RMAC Semifinals

By Jared Verner published November 2, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will look to avenge another 1-0 loss today when the fourth-seeded Mountain Lions (9-8-1) take on top seed and the top-ranked team in Division II Regis (16-0-1) at 2:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the 2012 RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament today at the Regis Soccer Pitch.

It's the first trip to the conference semifinals for the Mountain Lions since 2001, and it's coming off the first playoff victory since 1998. It's the first time since the tournament expanded to six teams in 2009 that UCCS is back in the final four.

UCCS will have Mash Shaswar back on the field after he sat out Wednesday's quarterfinal game against Colorado Mesa because of a red card on Sunday. He's one of four Mountain Lions on the All-RMAC team and became the first student-athlete in program history to earn a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District First Team.

Brandon Costa earned his fifth shutout of the season on Wednesday night and moved into fourth in UCCS program season records. He also moved into third in career records with his ninth shutout.

Regis, who received a bye in the conference tournament, claimed a 1-0 victory against UCCS earlier this season on Sept. 21. The Rangers are playing to host one of the NCAA regional pods in the tournament that begins late next week.

A win for the Mountain Lions would put them into the RMAC championship game for the first time since 1998. It's the second meeting between Regis and UCCS in the conference semifinals in program history, when the Mountain Lions advanced off of penalty kicks to the championship game in 1997.

Live stats from Regis will be the only way to follow the action live from today's game, and the link will be available at gametime at GoMountainLions.com. Updates will be posted on the UCCS athletics twitter account, @GoMountainLions, and the RMAC will produce highlights tonight from all of the semifinal games in Denver and Golden.
