UCCS Breaks into Regional Poll at Ninth
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A pair of victories against top 25 teams in the last four games moved the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team into the regional poll for the first time this season after the release of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America / Continental Tire regional and national polls this morning. The Mountain Lions debuted in the South Central Regional Poll at No. 9.
UCCS has won its last four games, which started with a 3-2 victory against then-No. 17 Fort Lewis on the road. The Mountain Lions earned their first shutout of the season last Wednesday in a 2-0 victory against Adams State, and then posted another 1-0 shutout and another top 25 upset last Friday night against then-No. 23 Colorado Mines.
UCCS wrapped up the weekend with a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Colorado State-Pueblo in the opening set of games for the Steel and Silver Series.
The Mountain Lions are on their longest winning streak since 2003 and have improved to second in the RMAC standings near the midpoint of the conference season. UCCS is ranked among the national leaders in shutout percentage, saves per game and save percentage. Brandon Costa is leading the defensive effort and is ranked in the top 40 in Division II in both saves per game and total saves.
UCCS will look to extend its win streak on Friday night at home against Colorado Christian at 5 p.m. The Mountain Lions have won their last 12 games against the Cougars dating back to 2005.
