Eight Home Games Highlight Mountain Lions Men's Soccer Schedule
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer will look to post its second straight winning season at home with eight home contests scheduled in the 2012 fall schedule. The Mountain Lions will begin the season with new head coach Johnnie Keen.
UCCS opens the season during Labor Day weekend in central California at California State-East Bay on Aug. 30 and Humboldt State on Sept. 1. Both matches will be the first games against either opponent, who both compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Mountain Lions open the home season the following weekend with a match against in-town rival College College on Sept. 5. UCCS holds a 9-6 advantage all-time against the Tigers and have won two of the last three matches dating back to the 2009 season.
The RMAC schedule opens Sept. 15 with Metro State, an NCAA playoff team last season. The Mountain Lions have won their last two home matches against the Roadrunners and unbeaten in three of the last four home contests.
UCCS goes on the road for three games in a six-day span with trips to Regis, defending national champion Fort Lewis and Adams State. The Mountain Lions return for a single game with Colorado Mines on Sept. 28 before traveling again for a Ent Federal Credit Union Trophy match against Colorado State-Pueblo on Sept. 30.
The Mountain Lions close out the home season with five matches, including Homecoming weekend matches with Colorado Christian on Oct. 5 and Colorado Mesa on Oct. 7. The ThunderWolves travel to Mountain Lion stadium for another Ent trophy match on Oct. 9, and then close out the home season with Adams State on Oct. 12 and Fort Lewis on Oct. 14.
UCCS will spend the final three regular season games in the Denver metro area with an Oct. 19 match with Colorado Christian. The final regular season weekend will feature two teams ranked in the top half of last year's RMAC standings with Colorado Mines on Oct. 26 and Metro State on Oct. 28.
The 2012 RMAC Tournament will be held on campus sites on Oct. 31, and semifinals and finals scheduled for Nov. 2 and Nov 4., respectively. The NCAA South Central Regional tournament, with teams from the RMAC, Lone Star and Heartland Conferences, will take place Nov. 9-11 at campus sites.
